We
all know who the Baby Boomers (born approximately 1946 through 1964)
are and something about the impact they've had - and will have -
on our society, our economy, and the future. I've wondered about
the impact of my own generation, Generation X (born approximately
1965 through 1980). Initial research turned up in large part books,
articles, and websites written by Baby Boomers. GenX writers and
researchers are out there, but our own exploration of our generation
has just begun.
The oldest
of us are just now entering our 40s. Over the next several decades,
we'll be making influential marks upon society, culture, and the
world. We'll be taking steps toward shaping and educating the
next generation. Our theories and philosophies will become apparent
in our art, writing, media, technology, and politics. Now is the
time to document our stories. And since we represent the smallest
generation on record at about 46 million, it is vital that anyone
who is driven to add to our collective library does so.
As a member
of Generation X (I was born in 1972), I intend to offer a contribution
to our pictorial history. My goal is to capture an accurate and
engaging representation of our experiences, thoughts, and perspectives.
My curiosity about our generation is the foundation of this project.
Having an opportunity to hear our stories is the bonus. The result
of this project will be a documentary book of photography accompanied
by articles written by me, based on interviews with participants.
